I was planning on renting a house with some buddies this summer in Michigan. I live in Chicago so the closer the better but don't mind driving a few hours. try for the Traverse City/Boyne area. Torch Lake, Lake Charlevoix, both are two of the most beautiful cleanest lakes in the state. Or you can still be close to that area %26amp; get a rental on Lake Michigan. I highly recommend the area.
South Haven, or maybe Saugatuck. Or if you want to come a little further north, you may wish to consider Traverse City.
Its worth it to come up to Traverse City, Glen Arbor area.
South Haven is your best option.
