I am thinking of applying a beach house look to my bedroom. What do you suggest?

Recently, I vacationed to the Outer Banks and was amazed by the look of the rooms of the house I was staying in. I loved the robust, light colors and beachy scenery. Admiring the room I was sleeping in, it hit me that this is what I wanted my bedroom back home in Pennslyvania to look like.

I am looking for a light look, with some beach-related scenery. I am looking for some beachy pictures over the Internet(without much success, may I add). Where could I find inexpensive beach pictures or scenery for the walls?

I already have the walls painted pearl blue, thinking this would contribute to the effect. What else could I do to create a ocean mood?I am thinking of applying a beach house look to my bedroom. What do you suggest?
Ballard Designs is a great catalog company beautiful white furniture and accessories. I would also take a look at Rachel Ashwell's line.

Most often, a high end beach look is more about the color and fabrics of a room versus beach themed accesories and art work. One of my most favorite movie beach homes is in Somethings Gotta Give... I love that house! Great inspiration.I am thinking of applying a beach house look to my bedroom. What do you suggest?
Inexpensive beach pictures, etc? Well, try walmart or like meijers. they have posters, borders, etc. sea shells make good decorations too. Soft light curtains would help, like white sheets. um... i don't know. try watchign trading spaces when they have their beachy themed rooms! lol. I would love to do that with my room, but turquoise didn't turn out the color it should have so I have to rethink.
I totally think you need one or two surfboards on the wall with some RENTAL signs and maybe a straw roof coming from the window..
Try being truly creative and envelope yourself in the outerbanks by painting a subtle but calmly inspiring mural. You already have a sky color, now add some ';sand'; using various shades of tans , with touches of yellow and browns, You can achieve a wonder full look by simply drawing a wavy line around about a third or more up on your bedroom walls, trying to keep in mind that there are always areas of ';beach grass on knolls of sand/ rock. sponging over a light tan base with a slightly dry color of softened yellows browns and whites will give you that grainy look of sand. Darker here and there just as nature has it. Then add your outer banks grasses in straw colors ,browns and dusty greens. somewhere add a still pool of water in your blue with some greens and turquoise and a sand castle, real or stamped on shells and even your name ';written '; in the sand. It sounds like a lot to do, but once your begin you will keep thinking of other wonder full things to add, such as a forgotten beach towel, a dreamy novel , sunglasses, even driftwood could be glued here and there. To finish your room think gauzy white curtains , a canvas sling beach chair and sisal rug. If you can dream it...you can do it!
Sea Shells!...They are THE thing of all beach themes. In fact...from the looks of every magazine I've seen lately...shells are nearly equivilant to rare stones! Depends on how you use them, though! Hot glue them in similar shapes and patterns around an old mirror. Hang them along a rope along side the shower curtain. You've seen mosaics done w/ old glass and or tile pieces...try shells. Only around your head board. Too much? How bout just a clay pot? If you have tons of them as I do..fill them up into a glass vase. Or, if you have a rather large conch shell...use it as a soap dispenser. Other than shells, you could take a white duvet cover and simply stencil a few beachy themes like...SHELLS, palms, flamingos, etc.. w/ fabric paints. Not too much. White, clean, breezy is what you're aiming for. So what we have here is this. You've already painted the room (Sounds Beautiful)...Now, hang the sea shell mirror (and don't forget to LOAD those shells on that mirror) directly above the bed. Stencil paint your white duvet, 2 or 3 Euro Shams, and bed skirt. Fold the large duvet down at the foot of the bed and leave the Euro's to pull every thing else in. Don't go overboard w/ beach stuff!!! All you need is ONE dramatic theme item...which could be the shelled mirror or shell chandelier (which I've seen and are unbelievable). People who go over the top w/ beach junk end up w/ too much of nothing!! You definately need...preferably...a real palm tree, bird of paradise, fan palm or Eureka Palm. Lastly, give your bed just a little more warmth by bringing in a pattern or contrasting color w/ the sheets and throw pillows. Please!!!...go buy pillows that have a vintage feel or that don't match! Go for something bright and elegant. Hope this helps a little. To get an eye for it, go to Better Homes and Gardens and see some of their beach themed rooms!
Sand. Lots and lots o' sand.
